L'Euridice (1600) of Jacobo Peri (1561-1633) is generally referred to as the earliest surviving "true" opera. Daphne (1598) of Peri & Jacopo Corsi (d.1604) is lost, while Rappresentatione di Anima et di Corpo (1600) of Emilio de' Cavalieri is perhaps more aptly regarded as an early oratorio.
