The Requiem was published in 1625, the motets in 1613 and 1648. The Portuguese school of Renaissance matured much later than most of Europe, and continued to produce unaccompanied choral music until 1650. Cardoso's music is definitely Renaissance, but with surprising twists, particularly in use of harmony.
