This recording is taken from Petrucci's first publication, edited by Petrus Castellanus, and the first printed publication of music in Europe. It is a representative selection of the 96 pieces in the original. The present performances take the view that Petrucci's first three chanson collections were intended for instrumental performance, although a voice does appear on a few tracks.
