Byrd's consort music is one of the high-points in this uniquely English repertory. The present recording is quite welcome for its rendition of his complete output.

The majority of the tracks on the present disc were included in Fretwork's earlier collections of Byrd & Dowland consort music (which also included a few songs):

Goe Nightly Cares
Dowland, Byrd: Dances & Songs
Fretwork
Virgin Veritas Editon "2-for-1" 61561 (2 CDs)

A more general program, including Byrd's consort music performed on different types of instruments (in addition to viols) as well as his keyboard music:

Byrd: Virginals & Consorts
Skip Sempé / Capriccio Stravagante
Astrée 8611

Another consort program highlighting Byrd:

Still Music of the Spheres
Consort Music by William Byrd and Richard Mico
