This music continues to be stimulating. Despite the relatively few themes, there are a wealth of ideas, and the treatments are satisfying. The complete program is very welcome.
The performance is somewhat weak, with the same sort of unemphatic approach to phrasing & ensemble which marks Savall's earlier English consort programs. It's not bad, but it leaves a lot to be desired too.
Still, this disc must be included. The program is simply too singular.
