The Missa Prolationum is one of Ockeghem's masterpieces and this was the first recording that really delivered it cogently. It's therefore a classic in that sense, although otherwise the oldest recording on my list here.
I simply have not, to date, preferred any of the newer recordings. I begin to think that this is a matter of some blind spot on my part, and that might be true — after all, this was probably the first recording of music in this general style that really captivated me. I can imagine a better interpretation, but I haven't heard it, except perhaps arguably, and I suppose that's where my own personal (historical) feelings come into play. I think.
In any event, it's not as though this classic is a bad recording.
