This is another program of highly appealing mass cycles by Obrecht. Both are among his most accomplished middle period masses, each with independent points of interest. These are two of his most characteristic & polished settings, and so this double album is a natural place to begin an exploration of Obrecht's masses.
The performance by The Sound and the Fury is quite accomplished & satisfying, with both a great sense of coherence and rhythmic energy. It's also good to have an alternative performance style (although they are rather similar) to the fine A:N:S Chorus series which had dominated this space for a time.
