This recording includes both the most impressive mass cycle by Gombert that I have heard to date, and the most accomplished performance of Gombert's dense sacred polyphony. The motets are also quite interesting.
This was a revelatory recording, especially as regards performance, and so distinctly valuable. The second volume, and it is unknown how many Gombert volumes there might be, is also quite accomplished, but headlined by what to me is a somewhat less appealing mass.
