This recording sets new standards for technical accuracy in playing Xenakis' large-scale orchestral works. It also promises to be the first of a series.

The next volume:

Xenakis: Orchestral Works - Vol. II
Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg - Arturo Tamayo
Timpani 1062

Other volumes will appear here when available.

The variety of color and sonority in these works is often high, making full use of the instruments chosen. There is little consistency in Xenakis' use of the orchestral medium, which makes these works a motley set as well as more original in their own right.
