The program consists of verses by the early medieval philosopher & poet Shankaracharya (founder of advaita). Track #5 uses lyrics by Mukkur Srinivasa Varadachariyar. Track #6 is actually by Kalidasa (information: V. Sundar). The music has been composed by the distinguished Carnatic scholar & singer, T.K. Govinda Rao.

Most of this recital is chanted, in a style rather different from ordinary Carnatic music. There is discreet accompaniment from several instruments, which often remain silent or are played in alternation with the voices. The overall effect can be quite hypnotic. Track #5 is more Carnatic-concert in style.

This is devotional music, fundamentally.
