Musiri Subramania Iyer (1899-1975) is another of the high-ranking performers credited with forging the modern face of Carnatic music early in this century. He had a very flexible voice, and gave presentations emphasizing detail & variety. He received the Sangeetha Kalanidhi award in 1939, and was later the first principal of the Central College of Carnatic Music in Madras.
