This is still one of the most affecting short programs. The selection of repertory is superb. From the Pancharatna kriti of Thyagaraja, to one of my favorite medium-scale songs in "Theliyaledhu Rama" and the masterful Dikshitar kriti in Mohanam, and on to the more obscure climax in the melakarta raga Karaharapriya, this is a golden set. Semmangudi is in his best voice, L. Shankar is marvelously compelling in accompaniment, and of course Palghat T. S. Mani Iyer punctuates everything so emphatically. The program is short, but this is still the first disc on my list.
