Sound quality: mostly excellent (a few dropouts & cuts)

Recording date: December 1982; released: 2010

I've long enjoyed DKJ (brother of DKP), and especially his approach to laya, which comes off masterfully here, i.e. almost antiphonal with the different parts of the compositions appearing in distinct rhythmic guises, etc. There's a great precision to the timing, and here also better sound (than most Carnatic releases, at least the older ones).

And despite that it doesn't fill a CD, the third part does have some truncated tracks, beginning with the first track, which cuts off, presumably before a pallavi. (A tani avartanam already concludes CD #2.) Then track #3 is abruptly & severely truncated for unknown reason. Nonetheless, this is the most substantial commercial recording available for DKJ, particularly considering the quality program & sound.

To purchasing information for this disc.

To Carnatic CD list.
