The interpretation is superb, mystic. Another best for La Reverdie.
Eadmund Wylfing (c. 844-870), the last Saxon king of East Anglia, virgin and martyr was - at least until the sudden emergence of the cult for Thomas Beckett - the first authentic and undisputed saint protector of England. ....
This appears to be a premiere for the recording of the main manuscript used for this CD.
... The Manuscript 736 of the Pierpont Morgan Library in New York is celebrated throughout the world for its "32 full page" miniatures with their splendid "continental" form and their imposing dimensions. The Manuscript was compiled in the Scriptorium of Bury St. Edmunds around 1125... It comprises an an anthology of the miracles of St. Edmund, the passio of Abbon, as well as the text, the music and the lectiones for the Office... (excerpt from a very dense and informative text in the booklet acompanying the CD, where the reader will have the possibility to thoroughly understand the purpose of the "Historia".
