Andreas Hammerschmidt (1611-1675), born in Bohemia and working in Germany, is considered the most representative composer of sacred music in Germany in the 17th century. He published over 400 sacred vocal works in nearly every genre during his life, mainly as the organist in Zittau from 1639 onward.
