These selections are taken from Anthony Holborne's Pavans, Galliard, Almains, and other short Aeirs (London, 1599), Thomas Simpson's Opusculum Neuwer Pavanen, Galliarden, Couranten, und Volten (Frankfurt, 1610), and John Adson's Courtly Masquing Ayres ... framed only for instruments (London, 1621). The masque genre was particularly popular in the first part of the 17th century.
