Sound quality: excellent

Recording date: July 1978; released: 2011

I already had a recital by MSG on the main Carnatic list, but like many performers featured there, it always seemed I had to make some choices or compromises to select a recording. In this case though, similar to the Vilayat Khan release, the National Center for the Performing Arts (in Mumbai), although not originally intended for commercial release, presented this opportunity, and it seems that MSG has put his very best playing on record here (& in great sound). His ability to present a vocal style, or an instrumental (veena) style, moving back & forth, is especially on display, with great virtuosity (& e.g. tuning purity). A tour-de-force performance, but regrettably only a single CD's worth (although there's more material lurking, including another already-released but less available/favored album...).

Track #7 is apparently a Tamil film song.

To purchasing information for this disc.
