This Mass apparently dates from c.1440. Although the Ordinary movements are securely attributed to Dufay, there is some doubt about the Propers movements, but they are thought by many to have been written by Dufay. At any rate, they are characteristic of his 3-voice hymn settings, setting the chant in the top voice.

As such, this mass might represent an example of a complete cycle of Propers & Ordinary composed together. This is certainly the case with Dufay's more famous Missa Sancti Jacobi. The present mass also stands out in that it was one of the compositions specified in Dufay's will to be performed in memorial to him after his death.
