Besides the now-common works of Hildegard, the present program includes music associated with another major female figure of the era, Herrad of Hohenburg (d.1195). She was also an abbess, and is best know for her massive illustrated encyclopedia of human knowledge Hortus Deliciarum (also known as Herrad von Landsberg). The designated items in the present program are taken from her compilation, but it is unknown whether she actually composed any of them (in some cases at least, it is clear she was compiler only). A broader range of repertory fills out the program, including even exercises (track #18).
